The way the service works is that you receive everything you need to make three meals. I have read about Blue Apron on some other blogs I follow and have several friends here in Charlotte that use the service and love it so I was really eager to give it a try. Blue Apron is a service that delivers all the ingredients you need to make fresh and flavorful meals right to your doorstep. Fun to try but since they didn’t send all the ingredients necessary and the packaging was too wasteful – I am not interested in trying them again.I have a week of amazing meals to share with you thanks to Blue Apron. It is way too expensive and I make from scratch anyway. My mom and dad also tried them the week before I did and they were missing 2 limes and the flour. I thought it was very bad quality control and I was a first time customer – you think they would do better. I was actually surprised that they didn’t just ship me the missing ingredients – one of which was saffron and I didn’t want to buy saffron for one meal! Now I have a credit on my account for a 2 person meal and I’m now sure how to proceed. I contacted Blue Apron and they apologized and offered me a credit of one 2 person meal. While the proteins were there, I was unable to make the side dishes or the sauce for the catfish. There is more packaging than food! Sadly, several ingredients were missing for both my meals – including the bag that holds all the spices and smaller ingredients. My first shipment came and I was stunned at all the packaging. I figured I could just add a bit of my own twist to stretch it. I signed up for the 4 person plan, even though we are a family of five. But since he is vegetarian you tend to have less obvious food combinations. We laugh sometimes because sometimes the food combinations are odd, not bad, just odd. It is pricey but not compared to NY prices. They recently changed to some kind of more environmentally friendly frozen packs and they are horrible in the summer. The extra packaging keeps it fresher, I do throw the recyclable items right in my recycle bin. I have been cooking it for him for about a year since he came back during Covid and his office is still not in person mostly yet. He was able to not have to worry about shopping and having parts of food items left over to be thrown out. He lived in mid-town Manhattan where everything expensive and he worked long hours. He has the vegetarian option for two people. My son uses Blue Apron and while he has been staying with us has it sent to the house.
